It is a sequel to the original Dolphin Tale, where Winter, a stranded dolphin was injured and a team of people care for and give her a prosthetic tail. I love this film! There was almost no reason to expect that there could have been a sequel to Dolphin Tale, considering it was based on a true story and a sequel would invariably have to be fiction. It astonishes me considering this film is formulaic and predictable with very little going for it. I was interested in watching Dolphin Tale because it was based on a true story which combines ecology, compassion to the animals and engineering. The popular new movie Dolphin Tale tells the touching story of a young dolphin named Winter who loses her tail and survives with a prosthetic one. A children’s book about her story, “Winter’s Tale: How One Little Dolphin Learned to Swim Again,” was published in 2009. It was a cold December morning in 2005 when Florida fisherman Jim Savage launched his flat skiff and wound up saving a baby’s life. And even though the corny and sentimental side of that story ended up having the preponderance in the film, I found it moderately entertaining. It is a fun and heartwarming movie that I think families will love too. Dolphin Tale 2 has all the right ingredients for a direct to DVD movie, but somehow it has been released in the big screen and received some positive reviews from the critics (only 4% lower than Interstellar according to Rottentomatoes).
